Welcome to Back Porch Studio in Franklin, KY!

On this site you'll find lots of information about the Back Porch Studio, complete with photos, sound clips, an updated list of studio projects, published keyboard and choral music, quotes, recommended reading, trivia, and contact information. And while you're visiting the "porch," you'll also find some light-hearted stories and humor that are "just for fun!"

The Back Porch Studio had its beginning in 1993 in the corner of my oldest son's (Jonathan's) bedroom. He had helped me set up had a 386 computer that was connected to an FM-synthesis-driven keyboard. By the time Jonathan moved home from college that first summer, I had added to my "collection" of equipment, and had basically taken over his room. We began to think about building a room onto our house and decided that the most logical spot was the back porch which already had two insulated walls and a roof. I honestly never thought this would be than a glorified office away from church and a place where I could do computer notation, but God seemed to have other plans, and the studio began to take on a life of its own.

To my amazement and to God's glory, the Back Porch Studio has grown into a professional-quality studio where I create state-of-the-art computer music notation, MIDI orchestrations, sequencing and recording. As the studio grew I began to do some live recording of various vocal projects. Starting as a "one-take" cassette setup, this area of the studio has also grown into a 16-track digital multitrack studio -- and more recently, the number of tracks has been dramatically increased thanks to computers with processing speed and hard-drive space to handle computer recording. [This is the "Cliffs notes" version of the Back Porch Studio. If you are interested in the full story, please go to "About Us" and choose the "History" section.]

For many year I offered both CD and cassette recording, duplication, and design. However, before long I had more projects than I could handle. When our pastor left in June, 2006, which added more responsibilities and time to what was already a more than full-time job at church, I made the decision to go out of the recording business for awhile because there simply were not enough hours in the day. However, the website is up and running, and if you are reading this you have obviously decided to come visit! Thanks!

I hope as you pull up your "virtual rocking chair" that you will stay awhile at the Back Porch and explore some of the many "side trips." Glad you stopped by!!
